The aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower and its strike group, as well a nuclear capable Ohio-Class Submarine, arrive in the Middle East as the war rages on.
The heavyweight assets join a host of other US artillery that entered the Middle Eastern waters of U.S. Central Command as concerns continue about a larger conflict erupting in the region with Israel’s war with Hamas.
The United States is putting on an impressive show of force in the Middle East by having two aircraft carrier strike groups, as well as a nuclear-capable Ohio class submarine, residing in the eastern Mediterranean Ocean. Is this one reason why Iran has been so relatively quiet? Perhaps, but the same cannot be said for Turkey where Erdogan is actively threatening to enter the war to assist Hamas.
Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called on the world to back his fight against Hamas, claiming that Israel is engaged in a ‘global battle’ against an Iran-led ‘axis of terror.’ He warned that if the Middle East ‘falls’ to the warring nations, ‘Europe will be next and no one will be safe.’
‘This is not a local battle. This is a global battle. The paramount need is to defeat this axis. That battle is now being waged by us against Hamas in Gaza.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met today with foreign ambassadors and told them:
“There is no substitute for victory. This battle is your battle and our victory is your victory.”
FROM MILITARY TIMES: Ike’s arrival also comes amid continued attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria that Pentagon officials have blamed on Iran-backed proxies. Eisenhower transited the Suez Canal and entered the Red Sea on Saturday, according to U.S. Naval Forces Central Command.
The Eisenhower’s presence in the region marks the first time a carrier has operated in Central Command’s area of responsibility since the end of the Afghanistan war in 2021.
“The arrival of [the Ike Carrier Strike Group] to Middle East region displays our speed and agility to flex as our nation’s leaders determined a balance of maritime capability in support of national security priorities,” Rear Adm. Marc Miguez, commander of Carrier Strike Group 2, said in a Navy news release.
“The strike group brings an unparalleled combat superiority to CENTCOM and we will be leveraging our presence in the theater to enhance regional security and operate alongside our allies and partners.”
The U.S. has a total of 18 Ohio-class submarines, including four guided-missile submarines outfitted with 154 Tomahawk missiles.
IDF: ‘We are working on one tunnel after another, demolishing them.’
Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari says a range of means are being used to destroy Gaza tunnels with new techniques.
Addressing IDF efforts to demolish the underground terror tunnel network dubbed “the metro,” Hagari said that Hamas, which deliberately places tunnel shafts under hospitals, mosques, schools and humanitarian sites, is systematically losing its underground access.
