What should Christians do about President Biden?
I hear that question often, though perhaps in a less respectful form. It’s more like, “What about Biden?” or “Did you hear what Biden has done lately?”
Most of my friends are Christians like me who voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020. In conversations about politics I sometimes try to reframe, or perhaps enlarge the frame, of such conversations to include God’s plans for the church and the world and Christian responsibility within those plans.
What is that responsibility? What should Christians do about Biden? The biblical answer is that they should pray for him. The Bible commands all kinds of prayers for all kinds of rulers, good and bad.
Therefore, first of all I urge you that requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made on behalf of all people – for kings and all who are in authority – so we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all Godliness and respectfulness.
I Timothy 2:1-2
Living a peaceful and Godly life is a blessing from God. This blessing is most obtained within a peaceful political and civil context in which religious liberty thrives. Disorder leads to violence and oppression of all types, including religious persecution.
If all the Trump supporting, evangelical Christians collectively stop praying for President Biden we are shooting ourselves in the foot by further withdrawing God’s favor from our nation and the church.
The Apostle Paul says we should pray for our leaders, “so WE may live a peaceful and quiet life.” We should pray for President Biden, Vice President Harris and the Administration in order to ask the Lord to keep us safe and free and so that the government would make wise decisions that will benefit our families and church. And thankfully, in 2021, we can still pray for the Lord to keep us free and allow the preaching of the Gospel in our country until Jesus returns.
God is able to sovereignly engineer rulers and circumstances to fulfill His will, “For dominion belongs to the Lord and He rules over the nations” (Ps. 22:28).
Regardless of political party, the leaders of our nation should be prayed for that they might lead with a spirit of humility, respect for one another, a spirit of understanding and a determination to cooperate for America’s common good.
Removing prayer for the current administration is a mistake that could bring further erosion and hardship on your family and the church at large.
Remember the unpleasant circumstances Paul was living under when he taught this. The Apostle wrote this to Timothy while sitting in prison, about to be martyred, under one of the most ungodly Roman governments in history. Nero was causing havoc persecuting the church and burning Christians for the fun of it. He was a cruel and vicious blasphemer but Paul says pray for our leaders!
You may not like the policies and ungodly standards of a particular party in power but God says we should pray for our leaders so we may live in peace. I want to live in peace don’t you? Of course. So we can’t afford to stop praying for our leaders.
That is why our political and civil leaders should be, if not at the top of our prayer lists, at least on our prayer lists.
End-time man thinks he can save the planet. Really? Imagine the audacity of such a prideful campaign. Fallen men, under the curse of sin are leading a worldwide campaign to “Save the Planet,” and the whole world is listening. Man would be wise to start thinking about how he can save his soul instead of wasting time and resources on saving the planet.
What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
The Climate Problem
Climate Change Alarmists Don’t Have a Climate Problem – They Have a God Problem
In fact, they have an unsolvable problem in their campaign to rid the world of global warming. Their real problem is opposing God.
God makes clear to Job, He has control of the sun, the wind, sea levels, and precipitation.
He’s the one who “commands the morning” by causing the sun to rise (Job 38:12).
He knows “where the east wind is scattered upon the earth” (Job 38:24).
He’s the one who “shuts in the sea with doors” (Job 38:8), “prescribes limits for it” (Job 38:10), and says to it, “Thus far you shall you come, and no farther” (Job 38:11).
He’s the one who enters the “storehouses of the snow” and “the storehouses of the hail” (Job 38:22), “brings rain on a land where no man is” (38:26), and “gives birth to the frost of heaven” (Job 38:29).
Environmentalists sooner or later must face the plain fact that there is nothing they can do to change the thermostat of our solar system.
Only God knows how to do that which he will frequently do during the coming Tribulation period. He will turn it up and singe men for their idolatry of worshipping themselves instead of God.
The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was allowed to scorch people with fire. They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him.
Climate change is one of the most popular and dangerous movements in the world today. Its rapid growth and acceptance is unparalleled. The Biden Climate plan is estimated to cost America $17 Trillion.
Like evolution before it, virtually every government, university and corporation have bought into the lie that the earth will not be able to sustain life much longer. Man is doomed!
The story of Gideon reminds us to walk by faith and remember that when God calls us to a task He also equips us with the gifts and spiritual capacity to accomplish the work.
Judges 6:12a, 15
Then the angel of Adonai (the Lord) appeared to him (Gideon) and said to him, “Adonai is with you, O mighty man of valor…” Then he (Gideon) said to Him, “Me, my Lord? With what would I deliver Israel? Look, my family is the poorest in Manasseh and I am the least in my father’s house.”
It’s interesting to note the contrast between Gideon’s view of himself and God’s view of Gideon. Gideon sees himself as he is in his present circumstance, an insignificant and unaccomplished nobody with a limited future.
But God sees Gideon as a man of valor, able to win wars against overwhelming odds and becoming a champion by rescuing Israel in their hour of need (Hebrews 11:32) .
To achieve something great for God we must be willing and ready to act in faith and say “yes” when He calls despite feeling inadequate. We usually do not see ourselves beyond our present level of achievement but thankfully, God sees us complete in Christ and blessed beyond our natural ability.
Like Gideon, we must remember that when God calls, He is seeing us with unique talents and gifts He chose to create in us to accomplish whatever He asks us to do.
Here’s the Lesson of Gideon: When God calls…say yes, step out in faith, and believe that you are equipped with all you need to succeed.
All Is Well… Really?
The media tries to make revolutionary jargon, political dishonesty and socialist disaster look normal, even optimistic. All is well, they tell us, even though foreign and domestic politics rapidly loom as a catastrophe. Trillionaire mystery men deal in programs and projects.
At the most recent G-7 meeting, Biden made the off-the-wall proposal of a $40 Trillion “Build Back Better” campaign for a world-wide infrastructure program designed to help poor nations!
Their innermost plans are global, rather than national in scope. Alcohol and cannabis are everywhere. Churches are fading away, as pseudo-religions explode throughout society, most of them in some way socialist in belief.
And everywhere, there is the endless search for new and different kinds of entertainment.
Meanwhile, Christians shudder at their children’s’ corrupted curriculum, with its unspeakable theories and the failure to teach math, English, the basic sciences and history. A composite blend of Marxist philosophy, pseudo-psychology, and even gender identity changes by the minute, crashing with the biblical understanding that male and female were created by God.
How could this have happened, given that America has been the land of the Gospel, of great seminaries and of countless revivals, sent here and abroad by men who were steeped in the truths of Scripture?
Many Scriptures throughout the Bible make the answer to this question clear. But one, written by Paul in the opening chapter of Romans, says it all, as he describes seven steps of man’s descent away from the TRUTH to become a godless culture.
“Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things”
1. Man knew God. The Lord had done everything possible to reveal Himself, but the nature of man is to refuse Him, and to not glorify Him as God. We are a land that has often been the source of Christian revival. Dozens of now-famous evangelists have preached to the world. Millions have been saved. A new life in Christ is a well-known idea. But in today’s America, in corporations and schools, it has been put to sleep and they have taken Him for granted.
2. We have glorified our ability to exist without God. Technology has, in many ways, become our god. It gives us anything we want… food, health, comfort and security. We can have anything we want. And now, it is even intelligent!
3. Why thank God, when we can provide for ourselves?
4. Mankind fell victim to atheistic theories and developed bizarre “explanations” of an ancient nature that came into existence without a god.
5. God’s wisdom and knowledge was gradually removed.
6. Man’s knowledge base became corrupted. He began to believe his own theories. He became a fool.
7. God was modeled into mythology and later, pseudo-science. It is this science that atheist man worships today. And what does Paul say happened next? The 24th verse says it all:
“Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.”
As America drifts away, the Lord stands, awaiting her return to His truth. Our kingdom is not of this world and as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we need to cherish our faith above all.
First, they threatened the pastor. He’s a born-again, godly pastor with a wonderful testimony and graduate of Master’s Seminary in California.
Next, they threw him in jail for violating COVID laws for holding church services.
After fining him and releasing him from jail, the police were at the Spruce Grove church in Edmonton, Alberta before 8 a.m.
Crews could be seen putting fencing up around the building’s perimeter, as well as blocking off several parking stalls. Alberta Health Services physically closed GraceLife Church and has prevented access to the building until GLC can demonstrate the ability to comply with Alberta’s chief medical officer of health’s (CMOH) restrictions,” AHS said in a statement Wednesday morning.
It appears Satan has a grip on our northern neighbor. Does this mean we won’t be too far behind?
Obeying God Not Man
The pages of history are filled with examples of faithful believers who resolutely obeyed God, even if it meant facing severe repercussions from men.
When Daniel refused to stop praying, he was thrown into a den of lions. When the apostles refused to stop proclaiming the name of Jesus, they were arrested and scourged. When the church father Polycarp refused to renounce Christ, he was burned at the stake. When the Puritan John Bunyan refused to stop preaching, he was put in jail for twelve years. Many other examples could be given, but the point is clear.
To obey God rather than men is not always easy. But it has been the heartbeat of believers in every age.
James Coates is a living illustration of that same kind of resolve. When government officials interfered with his congregation’s ability to meet and worship, James and his fellow elders determined they must choose God over government. That courageous stand came at a cost. James was arrested.
When he appeared before the judge, he was told he would be released if he stopped holding church services as he had been doing. Like Luther at the Diet of Worms, he respectfully answered that he could not do so. His conscience was bound to God and Scripture. As a result, James was imprisoned and treated like a common criminal.
It is clear the Provincial Health Authority of Alberta wants to make an example out of James. But believers across North America should also want to point out his example, because his conduct has truly been exemplary. The church should stand in solidarity with James’ courage and the courage of his church today! We should applaud the unwavering convictions on which that courage is established.
We need to be trusting the Lord in this assault, and continue to pray for our dear brother, his wife, his sons, his fellow elders, and his congregation.
Our prayer is only that, as a result of these bazar circumstances, the message of the gospel will shine forth to the honor of Christ.
Soli Deo Gloria! To God Be The Glory!
The tide is changing! We can feel it and now we can read it. As America runs from God, her new found pride over rejecting God is getting bolder and louder as she seems no longer embarrassed by her arrogance or interested in hiding it from God’s people… or from God!
America, Rejecting God Showing Godless Mindset
A recent article in the Los Angeles Times and Yahoo News is headlined, “Why America’s Record Godlessness is Good News for the Nation.”
In part it reads, “The secularization of U.S. society—the waning of religious faith, practice and affiliation—is continuing at a dramatic and historically unprecedented pace. While many may consider such a development as a cause for concern, such a worry is not warranted. This increasing godlessness in America is actually a good thing, to be welcomed and embraced.”
Are you serious?
As recently as 1976, nearly 40% of Americans said they believed that the Bible was the actual word of God—to be taken literally. Today, only about 20% of Americans believe that. More believe the Bible is a collection of fables, history and tales written by men.
Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) recently proclaimed that God’s will was of no concern to this Congress. First, the liberals kicked God out of the Pledge of Allegiance and then out of their Democrat National Conventions since 2012. Until recently, they did not make an effort to force the rest of the nation to also abandon God.
Secularization has consequences. Check out nations that have experimented with it: Japan, Scandinavia, Australia, the U.K. and Eastern Europe. How is society functioning in Godless Cuba, Venezuela, China and Russia?
Once God is gone, repression follows.
The article heralding America’s new Godlessness said that now society can embrace abortion, socialized medicine, euthanasia, and gun control.
It reads, “The organic secularization we are experiencing in the United States is a progressive force for good, one that is associated with improved human rights, more protections for planet Earth, and an increased socio-cultural propensity to make this life as fair and just as we can—in the here and now—rather than in a heavenly reward that fewer and fewer of us believe in.”
Does this not foreshadow the words of Luke 18:8: When Christ returns, will He find any of faith?
Government Becomes God
For one hundred years, there has been an effort to make the government god. Starting in 2020, a new and unforeseen element was added that furthered that agenda—fear. Fear of a pandemic.
It became the perfect storm.
Author and blogger Jonathan Brentner writes, “The combination of fear and the great deception of our time, have made vast numbers of people willing to submit to the government, which they now regard as the protector of their health. As a result, they have willingly given up many of their rights and freedoms for the sake of remaining healthy, a trend sure to continue.
“And very few pastors stand up against the restriction regarding the freedom of religion imposed on them by socialist governors.”
Given Over To A Reprobate Mind
Four of the most terrifying words in the Bible are “God gave them over.” (Romans 1:24-28) Because man rejected God, He gave them over to a reprobate mind. We find the same principle in 2 Thessalonians 2, but this time in terms of end-time man’s delusional beliefs. To those who reject God’s truth, He will send them a powerful spirit of delusion allowing them to misjudge what’s actually occurring in the last days. They will believe that what is false is actually true. We are seeing this more and more in our generation!
The Stage is Being Set
Just 50-100 years ago, our churches were filled on Sundays. Even though the Mainline Protestants were in decline, still faithful Presbyterians, Lutherans, and Methodists joyfully sang hymns. The evangelical church was exploding in reaction to the liberalism that had invaded the church.
The thought of a prominent U.S. Congressman stating that our government was not concerned with God’s will was unthinkable!
But 50-100 years ago we were not so late in the game! The shadow of the Tribulation hadn’t yet arrived. Few were even thinking about Antichrist and his looming empire, much less knowingly or unknowingly heralding his coming. Now he is on the horizon. So are the Four Horsemen.
Evil is on its way but so is the Rapture of the Church.
That’s the good news in the midst of this sad story about America.
Jesus is coming soon whether the church today talks about it or not. Jesus is coming whether the godless culture believes it or not. They didn’t believe God would judge the world in Noah’s day either!
Nothing can stop the spiraling events leading the world into God’s great Day of Wrath just as nothing can stop the soon return of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. It is imminent. Any minute.
